Marvel To Drop Jonathan Majors For Damson Idris Amid Domestic Violence Allegations

Marvel To Drop Jonathan Majors For Damson Idris Amid Domestic Violence Allegations

The phrase “innocent until proven guilty” may be a requirement in law, such that even when you see someone shoot and kill another, you can’t call him or her a murderer until the courts rule to that effect. But in Hollywood, all it takes to destroy a man’s career is hearsay from an unknown woman, and when the said woman is white, the damage caused by “cancel culture” is swift and drastic.

Jonathan Majors has been accused and arrested for assault by an unknown white woman, and before he could be scheduled for court, brands and production companies like Marvel have hinted at dropping the actor. According to Marvel’s spokesperson Jeff Sneider, Marvel has found a replacement for Jonathan’s character “Kang the Conqueror” for all his appearances in Loki Season 1 on Disney+, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Dominion, and the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. Rumors say his replacement is no other than fellow black actor Damson Idris.

Maybe it is time these actors include clauses that prevent these kinds of hasty actions against them. Until the court proves them guilty, they are not to lose their deals unless, of course, there is video evidence that is too compelling to await a court ruling. Dropping talents just because of word of mouth is insane.

Media Take Out is hearing that Marvel Studios is preparing to replace Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror. During an appearance on The Hot Mic podcast, Marvel Insider Jeff Sneider shared that the actor could be replaced in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following his assault allegations.

As Media Take Out reported, on March 26, Jonathan Majors was arrested in New York City for allegedly beating up an unnamed 30-year-old White woman.

While Jonathan has maintained his innocence, that isn’t enough for Marvel. During the podcast, Sneider explained that Marvel Studios and Jonathan’s team have discussed the issue and laid out potential options.

Jonathan Majors appeared as Kang the Conqueror in the season finale of Loki Season 1 on Disney+ and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. He was expected to be a major part of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga.

Kang, Jonathan’s character, was set to appear in both Loki Season 2 and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty.

But Jeff Sneider claims that Jonathan is being replaced – and they already have alternates ready on deck – including Damson Idris of FX crime drama, Snowfall.

“Even though there hasn’t been any movement on the Jonathan Majors front, I’ve heard that’s the kind of actor, who, like, if Jonathan Majors got the boot as Kang, someone like Damson Idris is the type of the person that [Marvel] may look at to replace him if that, in fact, happens,” said Sneider.

Considering the outcome of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s trial, you may think brands will be more reasonable in dropping talents, but Jonathan’s case has proved once again that all it takes is a woman’s word to destroy the reputation and career of a man.
