Social media was thrown into a state of confusion when Will Smith slapped his colleague actor Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars after he passed a joke about Jada Pinkett’s health.
Will Smith who saw the joke as more demeaning couldn’t control himself and exploded. The act has reportedly stirred a lot of reactions all across the world with Will Smith and Chris Rock memes being created for it.
Chris Rock on the night of the show saw Jada and said; ”Jada, I love you. GI Jane 2, I can’t wait to see you” the joke from all indications didn’t go on well with Jada who gave a very stern look.
G.I Jane is actually an action movie in which Demi Moore played the character of a navy personnel. The role demanded she shaves her hair in order to be enlisted into the military.
Jada actually suffers from alopecia, a hair loss ailment that causes one to lose their hairline, and due to that, she had to shave her hair completely.
Will Smith who couldn’t take the ridicule and humiliation his wife has been put into jumped on stage and slapped Chris Rock. Chris then said; ”Will just smacked the s* out of me”. Will also took his seat and screamed ”Keep my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth”.
The act generated a lot of reactions amongst the invited celebrities with Will Smith and Chris Rock memes created for it. A few hours later, Will was named the best actor for his role played in the true life story King Richard, a movie he played the role of the father and trainee of Serena and Venus Williams.
A teary Will said:
”I want to apologize to the academy. I want to apologize to the nominees. This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying. It is not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all people. He also quoted a few words the legendary Denzel Washington said to him” At your highest moment be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you”.
