Akua Asantewaa Opoku Tuffuor has broken the old standing myth of how women are perceived within the African community with regards to career choices.
Graduating from the Central University Ghana with First Class Honours degree, her passion for knowledge and opportunities has since led her to further develop to become a Chartered Accountant, Sustainability Practitioner and a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI).
To combat global carbon footprints, Akua rescues logs from unwanted wood burning. Created by constant development projects all over Accra, She crafts them into beautiful, elegant yet practical furniture ware to promote sustainability in style.
Akua came up with this idea when suddenly road construction hit the community she lived in and beautiful age-old tress had to give way. In the same breath, she was looking for avenues to save her sisters’ wedding on the budget for tables & chairs, decor and setup.
One they couldn’t afford in September 2018. As a unique wedding present, a rustic themed wedding with these abandoned wood pieces was held. All wooden effects and tables were sold at the wedding-that was the birth of Casabi.
The Casabi innovation is now attracting customers around the globe through its Instagram page @casabigh and with an online store in sight will no doubt become a leading brand and advocate of sustainability in the furniture world.
Aside from Casabi, Akua owns and operates three other businesses from her office, Aspire House;
- Facilitators Hub; a company that conceptualise, develop and implement social impact project that creates shared value investment on a sustainable basis.
- Cirles Connect; Groom entrepreneur that pick up social issues and creates businesses out of it.
- Wabisabi; promote culinary culture through food experiences.
In addition, Akua Co-owns Home Medics with three other partners to provide quality care in the comfort of clients homes using a pool of medical experts.
Aspire House she said ‘is the place where dreams are made’. A phrase that resonates the very nature of Akua. Warmly, inspirational, a mentor and a natural-born leader supporting younger ladies.
As quoted by Akua;
“I love the power offered by my feminine side; the grace of womanhood and my ability to be strong when society believes I am weak”.
Above quotation shall hopefully encourage younger women to aspire for more and be self-reliant- changing the eye society uses to perceive our strength.
