Apparently, Ghana Government Has Spent Taxpayers Money On A 'Useless' COVID-19 Tracker App

In our fight against deadly coronavirus and to spend the $100 million and other donated cash from rich Ghanaians and corporate bodies, the Ghana Government has gone ahead and launched what has been described by some social media users as useless COVID-19 tracker App.

Ghana Government has finally launched the COVID-19 tracker App this evening but some Ghanaians think it is just one useless App which wouldn’t help Ghana’s fight against coronavirus and they have a point.

For your information, the Ghana COVID-19 tracker App cannot be accessed or downloaded on Google Play Store and Apple Store because these popular and trusted platforms (Apple and Google) “have made it clear that they won’t allow any covid-19 apps for a while until they complete design, review and implementation of a “recognised entities” policy, which will lay out the guidelines for pre-qualified entities to publish carefully vetted apps through their app stores”.

And what makes this Ghana COVID-19 tracker App useless is that Apple and Google are coming up with their own COVID-19 tracker Apps which will be available to all once they sorted out privacy policy and data issues.

“Government holds a virtual concert. To launch a covid-19 tracker app.

Yet, Apple and Google, virtually the only channels through which apps can reach the population, have made it clear that they won’t allow any covid apps for a while until they complete design, review and implementation of a “recognised entities” policy, which will lay out the guidelines for prequalified entities to publish carefully vetted apps through their app stores.

Of course, that they have their own app coming out for the covid-tracking has no small a part to play here.

So why would Government of Ghana hold a virtual concert to launch an app that can’t be accessed nor used?”

Ghana’s COVID-19 tracker App is just a third party App just like WhatsApp GB and others which have been banned from Google and Apple’s trusted platforms.

Ghanaians who do not care about their security on the internet can go ahead to download the Ghana COVID-19 tracker App through the link they’ve provided.

For those who care about data and security issues just like myself, you can wait until it is approved by Google and Apple.
